"Ferg," as he was known by all of his Oberlin friends, had a passion for music.  He was a gifted guitar and harmonica player.  He had an enormous vinyl record collection and extensive knowledge of rock & roll musicians.  He was active in Social Board and helped to bring artists like John Prine and Laura Nero to perform at Oberlin.  He had a special fondness for Neil Young tunes and could play and sing many of them quite well. His laugh was infectious and we often joked about his silly sense of humor.  We had a relationship that began in sophomore year and though we did not become life-long partners, we had a lot of good times together.  We travelled to concerts near and far and I learned to appreciate many types of music because of him.  He loved the beach and especially the Delaware shore, although he ultimately ended living most of his adult life on the Pacific coast.  Farewell, Heart of Gold.
